First spiritist caravan, and not spiritist: can you go?
"Ana Carla, can I go on this trip if I'm not spiritist?" It is the question that reaches my WhatsApp most often when we announce Novembro 2026: Triângulo Mineiro e Águas de Caldas Novas. The short answer is: yes, you can. The long answer is this text, because people who ask this usually have three or four more questions behind it, and we answer them all, with no waffle.
Do I need to be spiritist to join?
No. The trip is open to everyone: the curious, Catholics, people of other faiths or of none, and a case we know well, those who come along with their spouse. The itinerary visits houses and places linked to the history of Spiritism in the Triângulo Mineiro, such as the Colégio Allan Kardec in Sacramento and the sites in Uberaba linked to the memory of Chico Xavier, as well as time to rest in the waters of Caldas Novas.
I make one thing clear, because it is the Mundo a Passeio way: we separate history from belief. That Chico Xavier lived in Uberaba and wrote hundreds of books by psychography is a fact. That those books were dictated by spirits is faith: the spiritist tradition affirms it, science does not confirm it, and on our trip nobody has to believe in anything to join. Those who believe experience the trip one way; those who do not experience it another; both come home content.
Do I have to take part in the sessions?
No. The activities on the itinerary (the mediumistic meeting in Conquista, the mediumistic sessions and the Gospel session in Uberaba, the psychography slips) belong to the spiritist tradition and happen at set times. Those who want to, join in. Those who prefer to stay at the hotel resting, reading or having a coffee, can do so, with no fuss and no pressure. In Uberaba, in fact, the itinerary includes a whole free afternoon.
"What if I get emotional?"
You will, and that is fine. Everyone does: those who come for their faith, those who come out of curiosity, those who only came along to keep a husband or wife company. It is a setting of quiet reflection, with people who cry openly and nobody finds it strange. My advice as a travel agent is simple: bring a handkerchief and let the emotion come. On the caravan, nobody is there to judge anybody.
And if I travel alone?
It is more common than you might imagine. Many people in our group travel alone: widows, single women, people whose partner does not like the road. And we look after you: from the booking (a single room is an option you select when you secure your place) to meals, where nobody is left without company unless they wish. By the second day of the trip, the group has mixed so much that nobody is left "alone".
And the Caldas Novas part?
This is the pleasant surprise for those who come without any religion: the last two days of the trip are pure rest in the hot waters of Caldas Novas, with no religious programme. The waters are hot by nature: rain seeps into the Serra de Caldas, travels down through fractures in the rock, heats up with depth and resurfaces at between 43°C and 70°C, with no volcano anywhere nearby. The town is considered the largest hydrothermal resort in the world. Two nights at the Hotel Morada das Águas, with meals included, close the trip in a restful key.
Frequently asked questions
How should I behave in a spiritist centre?
The basics fit into three rules: arrive on time, wear comfortable and discreet clothing, and keep silent during moments of reflection. We have prepared a full guide on how to behave in a spiritist centre, well worth reading before you travel.
Do I need to have read the books beforehand?
No. The trip requires no prior study or any knowledge of the doctrine. Those who know it will recognise it; those who do not will learn by listening, and the guides and the centres themselves welcome first-time visitors.
What is psychography, exactly?
In the spiritist tradition, it is writing attributed to spirits, through a medium. In Uberaba, this tradition is linked to the memory of Chico Xavier, who attributed more than 400 books to psychography. On the itinerary, psychography takes place at the meeting in Conquista and with the slips in Uberaba. It is part of the faith of much of the group, and a moment of emotion for everyone.
What if I like it and want to learn more about caravans?
We have a text on what a spiritist caravan is and how it works and the page for the spiritist caravan departing from Porto Alegre, which lists the next departures.
