The state of Minas Gerais has a special gift for welcoming those in search of roots, art and spirituality. In April 2026, Guatambu Travel led a memorable expedition from Porto Alegre that brought together, in a single itinerary, the Baroque splendour of the historic towns of Minas and the deep serenity of the paths of faith.
Over sunny autumn days, our group walked historic slopes, admired the genius of Aleijadinho and breathed in the peaceful atmosphere of the memorials dedicated to charity on Minas Gerais soil.
The itinerary of our journey
The trip harmoniously combined the emotion of art with moments of spirituality and good food:
- Congonhas: Admiring the imposing twelve prophets carved in soapstone by Aleijadinho in the churchyard of the Santuario do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Ouro Preto and Mariana: Immersion in the riches of the 18th century, with visits to the Igreja de Sao Francisco de Assis, Praca Tiradentes and the centuries-old Se de Mariana, with its historic organ.
- Tiradentes and Sao Joao del-Rei: Colonial charm, relaxed walks along streets paved in pe-de-moleque (rustic cobblestone paving), Minas handicrafts and the traditional local cuisine.
- Centres of faith and memory: Special stops dedicated to study and reflection on the works of love and charity that marked the history of Minas.
