Anyone who has never been on a Spiritist caravan usually has the same questions: what exactly happens each day? Is it only museum visits? Is there a mediumistic meeting? Is there time left to rest?

This is the day-by-day itinerary of our caravan to Triângulo Mineiro, departing from Porto Alegre. It lasts eight days across Uberaba, Araxá, Sacramento and Conquista, in the land of Chico Xavier and Eurípedes Barsanulfo. Everything is set out here as it happens, including the early-hours start times, which are part of the plan.

Day 1: departure from Porto Alegre

We leave Porto Alegre at 9am for Triângulo Mineiro, on a leito total coach (with fully reclining seats). The road is already part of the journey: good conversation, a snack on board and the group getting to know each other.

Day 2: arrival in Uberaba

We reach Uberaba around midday and check in. In the evening, at 5.30pm, comes the first mediumistic meeting, with passes (spiritual healing by the laying on of hands), talks and psychographies (messages written by a medium). It is the spiritual opening of the caravan.

Day 3: Casa da Sopa and the paths of Chico Xavier

A morning of healing. At 7.30am, the Casa da Sopa Adolfo Fritz, with passes on stretchers. At 10am, the Casa de Memórias de Chico Xavier, where Brazil's greatest medium lived.

The afternoon is free, to rest or walk around the city at your own pace. At 6.30pm, the Evangelho (Gospel study).

Day 4: pre-dawn at Pedro e Paulo, the Memorial and Araxá

The busiest day of the trip starts early, very early: at 3.30am, the meeting at the Centro Espírita Pedro e Paulo, with the medium Carlos Bacelli. Those who have been know that this early morning is usually the most powerful moment of the caravan.

In the morning, the Memorial Chico Xavier. In the afternoon we continue to Araxá, with the Fonte Dona Beja and the museum. In the evening, Casa do Caminho hosts the Evangelho and the Noite de Luz with Irmão Tadeu.

Day 5: Pratinha

A breather in nature at Pratinha: the Gruta dos Palhares or the Instituto Espírita do Amor, depending on the day's programme. After an early morning like the previous day's, this lighter day makes a difference.

Day 6: Fazenda Santa Maria and Conquista

Free morning to rest. In the afternoon, the Fazenda Santa Maria, home of Eurípedes Barsanulfo, and in the evening a mediumistic meeting in Conquista. We return to the hotel at around 9pm.

Day 7: Sacramento and the Colégio Allan Kardec

A special morning in Sacramento: a conversation with Alzira Amui, great-niece of Eurípedes Barsanulfo, at the Colégio Allan Kardec, the school he founded. After lunch, the journey home begins.

Day 8: arrival in Porto Alegre

Arrival in Porto Alegre, with a lighter soul and a full heart.

Is there a version of this caravan with thermal waters?

Yes. One of the year's departures follows the same Triângulo Mineiro route (Sacramento, Conquista and Uberaba) and ends with two days in Caldas Novas, in Goiás, to rest in the thermal waters before the journey home. It suits those who want to combine the faith-based part with a few days of recovery.

Do I need to be a Spiritist to join the caravan?

No. The itinerary has a Spiritist theme, but the group welcomes people who come out of interest in the history, to accompany a family member or out of curiosity. No activity is compulsory: anyone who prefers to rest at the hotel while the group goes out is free to do so.

Are the early-morning meetings compulsory?

They are not compulsory. The 3.30am meeting at the Centro Espírita Pedro e Paulo is one of the most sought-after parts of the trip, but anyone who does not want to, or cannot, face that hour can stay at the hotel without any problem. The coach and the guide go with those who attend.

Is there free time during the itinerary?

Yes. Day 3 has a free afternoon, day 5 is a lighter day in Pratinha, and day 6 has a free morning. The itinerary is built to give breathing space between the most intense days, because most of the group is aged between 55 and 75.

What is the journey there like?

From Porto Alegre to Triângulo Mineiro on a leito total coach, with on-board service, a snack at departure and coffee and water on the long stretches. A guide and a travel agent accompany the group from boarding to return, and the accommodation includes breakfast.

How to book

Booking is made with a 10% deposit, and the balance is paid in instalments until departure, by PIX (Brazilian instant payment) or card, directly with the travel agent. The dates of the next departures are on the expeditions page.
