Uberaba is in the Triângulo Mineiro, in the west of Minas Gerais, close to the border with São Paulo and Goiás. From Porto Alegre it is 1,456 kilometres by road. That is a long way, and it is exactly why most people who want to visit the places linked to Chico Xavier go on a group trip: someone looks after the road and you look after the trip.
The route the coach takes
The route leaves Porto Alegre on the BR-290, the Free Way, joins the BR-101 along the Santa Catarina coast, climbs the BR-376 to Curitiba and continues on the BR-116, the Régis Bittencourt, to the São Paulo region. From there it follows the São Paulo state highways Bandeirantes and Anhanguera to the state border, and the BR-050 enters Minas and reaches Uberaba.
That means five states, from Rio Grande do Sul to Minas, and one whole night on the road. The coach stops for meals and to change drivers, and the group sleeps on board. This is why the type of seat matters: the difference between a semi-leito (semi-sleeper) and a leito (sleeper) is explained in sleeper, semi-sleeper or executive coaches.
How do you get to Uberaba on your own?
Uberaba, in the Triângulo Mineiro, can be reached by car, by scheduled coach, or by plane to a city in the region, followed by the rest of the journey overland.
You can drive the same route, with an overnight stop along the way. By scheduled coach, the journey requires changing coaches on the way. By plane, you need to fly to a city in the region and continue by land. The excursion covers all of this in a single journey and also includes travel between the towns in the region, which is the hardest part to do on your own.
