Termas Romanas is the name we receive most on WhatsApp when the cold arrives. It is the shortest trip on our calendar and the favourite of people travelling in a group for the first time. Here is what people ask before booking.
Where is Termas Romanas?
Termas Romanas Resort is in Recanto Maestro, a district of Restinga Sêca, in central Rio Grande do Sul, about 30 kilometres from Santa Maria. From Porto Alegre it is about 255 kilometres, a little over three and a half hours by coach. It is not on the coast or in the mountains: it is in the middle of the state, on the way to Santa Maria.
How does the Termas Romanas thermal water park work?
The water is the reason for everything. It comes out of the ground naturally salty and hot, at 42 degrees, and is considered the only thermal park in Latin America with naturally occurring salt water. The hot pools are salt water, and there are cold freshwater pools, hydromassage hot tubs and water slides. The feeling is of floating effortlessly, as in the sea, but with the water at bath temperature.
The park receives day visitors, known as day use, from Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays, from 10am to 6pm. Guests staying at the resort have park access included in their stay.
What is the Mundo a Passeio group trip to Termas Romanas like?
The Mundo a Passeio group travels by coach from Porto Alegre and stays inside the resort, with hotel, meals and the park all in the same place. There is no travelling at all during the stay: you wake up, have breakfast and head for the water. In the evening there is the bonfire, the lounge and the conversation that turns a group into friends. In 2026 we ran two departures, from 13 to 16 February and from 14 to 16 August. What should you take on a trip to Termas Romanas?
Swimwear, more than one set, because salt water makes it slow to dry. Flip-flops, a bathrobe or beach cover-up, sun cream, a cap and a warm layer for the evening, which is cold out of the water at any time of year. The full list is in get ready for the trip.
When is the next trip
Termas Romanas appears on the calendar twice a year, in summer and in winter. The next ones are planned for February and August 2027, with dates to be confirmed, and they appear at Termas Romanas from Porto Alegre as soon as they are finalised.
