Meeting Alzira Amui: a conversation with the family of Eurípedes Barsanulfo

Some moments on a trip cannot be explained in a leaflet. One of them happens in Sacramento, on the third day of our November expedition: the group visits Colégio Allan Kardec with Alzira Amui, great-niece of Eurípedes Barsanulfo, that is, someone who grew up hearing at home the story of the educator who founded the school in 1907.

In this text, I tell you who she is, what is confirmed about her story and what the meeting with our group is like. Without making anything up, because family memory deserves that respect.

Who Alzira Amui is

Her full name is Alzira Bessa França Amui. She is the great-niece of Eurípedes Barsanulfo, the educator, journalist and councillor of Sacramento who founded Colégio Allan Kardec on 31 January 1907, the school referred to as the first Spiritist school in Brazil.

Alzira is the pedagogical coordinator of the school that continues Eurípedes's educational legacy. In other words: she does not only keep the family memory; she works, day to day, in the institution that keeps his work alive, more than a century later. She is also connected to the Grupo Espírita Esperança e Caridade.

And there is a lovely public record: in May 2025, she was honoured by the Câmara Municipal de Sacramento with the Cartão de Prata (Silver Card). Alzira is also the author of a text about the educator.

What the meeting on the caravan is

I will be honest about the format, because that is how we work: the meeting is a visit to Colégio Allan Kardec, scheduled in the itinerary for the third day of the expedition, with a conversation about the memory of Eurípedes Barsanulfo.

Every visit has its own pace and atmosphere, and the content of the conversation does not follow a fixed, published script. It is a meeting of people with people, inside the school where the history happened. That is why we do not promise a talk on a set theme, but what it really is: the chance to hear, from someone who carries that family name, how this memory is kept and lived there.

Why this moment leaves such a mark

I have already accompanied groups on this visit, and what moves people most is the continuity. It is not a motionless museum: it is a working school, with a pedagogical coordinator who belongs to the founder's family. We walk through the school founded in 1907 and understand that it is not only the past, but work that has crossed generations.

For those who have studied the life of Eurípedes (and we strongly recommend reading who Eurípedes Barsanulfo was before the trip), hearing his family speak of his memory puts the story in another place. It leaves the book and gains a voice.

And it is worth remembering, as always: the mediumistic side of Eurípedes's story belongs to Spiritist belief, and the accounts of healings that circulate there are attributions of tradition. What is fact, and beyond question, is the school of 1907 that remains open to this day, and that is the part the visit celebrates.

How we prepare for the visit

The meeting takes place at the pace of the group, which is small by our own choice. We agree things beforehand: arriving on time, listening attentively, asking questions kindly. It is not an interview, it is a conversation.

If you would like to learn more about the school's history beforehand, also read our text on Colégio Allan Kardec and its history. And if you want to know how the July 2026 edition of this same trip went, we told the whole story in how the Minas espírita trip went in July 2026.
