Psychography with Carlos Baccelli in Uberaba: what the letters day is like

In Uberaba, the letters day begins before sunrise. In the early hours, people from all over Brazil get organised to secure the psychography ficha (registration slip), the paper on which a message from a loved one is requested. Leading this work is a well-known name in the city: the medium Carlos Baccelli, who practises psychography at Lar Espírita Pedro e Paulo.

If you are travelling with us on the November caravan, this day is part of the itinerary, and departure is at 4 am. In this text, we introduce Baccelli, explain what psychography is according to Spiritist doctrine and describe how the letters day works. And, as we always do here, we present the teaching as a teaching: a belief treated with respect, never as scientific fact.

Who Carlos Baccelli is

First of all, the spelling: the correct name is Baccelli, with two Cs. Writing it with a single C is a common mistake, even in travel itineraries (our own owner has spelled it that way, and we corrected it).

Baccelli was born in Uberaba on 9 November 1952. He trained as a dentist and worked for the Correios (Brazil's postal service), a biography so down-to-earth that it helps explain his profile. Besides his mediumistic work, he is a writer and speaker with recognised activity in Uberaba, and a 2022 G1 report identifies him as an author linked to the city.

His institutional work is spread across Uberaba: Baccelli founded in the city the Grupo Espírita "Pão Nosso", the Lar Espírita "Pedro e Paulo", the Grupo "Irmão José" and the "Casa do Caminho".

Where he practises psychography: Lar Espírita Pedro e Paulo

It is at the Lar Espírita "Pedro e Paulo" that Baccelli holds his psychography sessions. The format is that of traditional Spiritist centres: the consulentes (people seeking a message) hand in letters and slips with their requests; in the sessions, the letters and slips are read and, afterwards, comes the mediumistic work of psychographing the replies.

The work is ongoing: there is a public record of a session held in 2018, and the schedule published for 2025-2026 confirms that the sessions remain active. (What cannot be stated, for lack of a reliable source, is the year in which the sessions began, so we do not claim one.)

What psychography is and what the types are

According to Spiritist doctrine, psychography is writing under the influence of a Spirit: the medium writes, but the content, the doctrine teaches, comes from the communicating Spirit.

Kardec classified the types of psychography in O Livro dos Médiuns (The Mediums' Book), items 178 to 181:

Uberaba, as everyone knows, is the Brazilian capital of this story: it was there that Chico Xavier psychographed letters for decades, a subject covered in our text /blog/psicografia-cartas-chico-xavier.

What the letters day is like on the caravan

In the caravan itinerary, the day begins at 4 am: the group leaves early to collect the psychography slips with the medium Carlos Baccelli. It is the early start that secures the slip. During the day, the programme continues with talks and then the reading of the letters, the moment when those seeking messages learn the replies.

For believers, it is the most anticipated day of the trip. For those who follow with curiosity and respect, it is a moving portrait of Brazilian faith: queues of people of all ages, each with a name in their heart. The full context of the city that Chico turned into a destination is in our text /blog/chico-xavier-uberaba-destino-de-fe, and the context of Spiritism in the region is in /blog/o-espiritismo-e-o-triangulo-mineiro.
